July 13, 2024 Albany Oregon Chess Tournament

Advance Registration required, in June. Not USCF rated.

July 13th at 1pm inside the Albany Library conference rooms. please show up at least 20 minutes early to find your seating, for the tournament intends on starting at 1pm.

Time control will be 15 minute rapid for 5 rounds.

There will be two divisions, the “open” will be ages 16 or older, open participant fee is 5 USD. then the youth division ages 15 or younger, which is free.

currently the prizes for the open division will be ~ 1st $100 plus additional non-monetary prizes. 2nd 50USD plus additional non-monetary prizes. 3rd 25USD plus additional non-monetary prizes.         Currently there is not a specific reward for the top 3 of the youth division given that giving cash prizes to children is a bit odd plus warrants parent approval. Currently I’m thinking some minor trophies for youth winners.

If you’re interested in participating please register at “Albanyoregonchessclub@gmail.com”, give your name and division you intend on playing in. Registration will end in June

Thank you so much everyone for the help and support so far!

Dan Rogers has passed away

Daniel Thomas Rogers passed away on November 6, 2023, at the age of 80

For decades, he was a leader in our local chess club, whether it was meeting in Albany or Corvallis, Oregon.

He directed over 70 Chess Tournaments in Oregon, in Albany, Corvallis, Salem, Newport, Portland, Eugene, Monroe, Philomath, and Bend, tournaments with as few as 5 or as many as 118 players

He taught kids to play chess. He taught adults to be Tournament Directors.
